Firqatul Wannazam was established in 1921 at Geylang Lorong 12 by our Founder, the late Syeikh Ahmad Bin Syeikh Amir. Firqatul Wannazam is an Arabic language which means ‘Poem Empire’. The first time we took part in a competition which was held at Singapore Trade Center, we became Champion and our Chairman,Mr Haji Othman Abdul Rahman, won the title ‘Best Khalifah’. Since then, our reputation grew rapidly and our achievements list kept on growing till today. Our forte is not only Hadrah, but also Kompang. Because of our great strength in Hadrah and Kompang, we received a high level of respect and admiration by other groups in the local Hadrah & Kompang scene. In 2007, we changed our name to Firqatul Wannazam 1921 Performing Arts Group with more malay performing arts being absorbed into this group. With the reformation of this group, we strive to contribute more in the local Malay performing arts scene and to raise the awareness level locally and globally. Apart from that, we also strive to make the Malay cultures and arts as a medium to foster harmony and develop better understanding about the Malay Community to other communities in Singapore. We are proud to have Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, MP for Marine Parade GRC, to be the Patron for this group along with five great individuals that is being appointed to form our Board of Advisors.
